Buy a Book, Save the World! CONTEST!!!

Alison Kent has a great contest going on on her blog right now. It was triggered by this post about the dire conditions in publishing today and how everyone should go out and buy a book to help things stay above water. I think it’s a great idea. I admit, even my book buying, which in the past was up to addictive levels, has dropped off significantly.

I, for one, plan to buy a lot of books as Christmas gifts this year. The book will be geared toward the recipient, of course. And I know of one immediate family member who doesn’t like to read books. Any books. Even when a book is actually dedicated to them. Over two years ago. :-/ So, in this case, I would pick a different book. Possibly a picture book of some kind. Or one about shoes.

So, here’s my contest this weekend. Tell me a book that you want to read and why you want to read it. It has to be a new or recent release and it has to cost under $10 — so you’re looking at mass market paperbacks here. Be sure to say why you want the book — buzz it here (by chatting about it a bit in comments), and maybe it’ll trigger somebody else to want to pick it up!

I’ll pick 2 winners from the comments next Tuesday, November 18 at 9:00 p.m. EST and send off their book choices. And I welcome anyone to do a similar contest on their blog. Books rock!!

Good luck!

–Michelle

First let me say this is a great contest! Thank you!

The book I would love is A.J Menden’s Phenomenal Girl 5. Why this book? Mainly because A.J. is a newly published author with a lot of talent. All new author’s need support and the best way to support them is to buy their books!

Plus the book has gotten rave reviews from ParaNormalRomance.org and Romantic Times Magazine. I can’t wait to read it!

Free books – rocks out loud!! I love to read and my genre of choice is paranormal romance. I also like fantasy and urban fantasy. The book I would choose is The Demon King and I by Candance Havens. Why? Because I have never read one of her books and I’m always on the lookout for new authors. I have heard good things about Ms. Havens work. :)

Well one book would be Deja Demon By Julie Kenner but that one is slightly over 10.00 dollars I think. The cost of books is going up so fast these days. I love her work and over the holidays its always fun to read something with humor in it.

And then there is of Magic to the Bone By Devon Monk I have heard such good things about this book. She is a new author and I hope I get to read this one soon. I usually get a gift card to chapters books for christmas. everyone seems to give them in my family.

There are others but I cant find my list right now. I always have a list. I think its my number one rule

I have been putting buzz buttons on my blogs well one blog so far but more to come. I have a lot of writing to do and well this time of year I don’t seem to get as much as I would like done. Anyway do you have a buzz button so we can buzz this blog or did you mean something else.

Where to start, there are always so many! One book I have on my list is Single White Vampire by Lynsay Sands. Somehow I missed picking that one up when it was first out and it is just being released again. I really enjoy Lynsay Sands’ vampire books, her take on vampires is a bit different, and there is a lot of humor in her stories – just like your vampire stories Michelle (which I love, by the way).

    I want
Mercury’s War by Lora Leigh. Her Breed series is very intense( sex, action..etc) Each book just hooks me more.
Dark Magic by Cheyenne McCray (really want this one) Last book in the series and she’s going out with a bang. The book has more pages than the rest(big plus) and it has action galore. Cassia is the most powerful witch in the coven and we get her story with Jake now( can’t wait)
And last but not least( sorry for long post but books are my addiction) Fish out of Water- book 3 in MaryJanice Davidson’s Fred the Mermaid series. This doesn’t come out until Nov. 25 but it is worth the wait. If you like MJD’s Betsy series, you’ll love Fred as well. In this book she decides to date Artur the merman instand of her human interest,Thomas. We also get to meet her father for the first time ( good or bad we don’t know yet)

BTW this is only the tip of my iceberg of a list.

I would love a copy of Cindy Gerard’s “Take No Prisoners.” Cindy is one of my favorite authors. I love her Bodyguard series and her Black Ops series. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense you should give her books a try.

I really want Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead. I love the vampire academy books. They are YA, but as someone who isn’t in the age group, they are great even for older folks. I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

I am also looking forward to the next Fred the Mermaid book by Mary Janice Davidson. Fred is such a smart-ass, and I love her. The books are similar to the Betsy series, but different enough to be fresh and new.

Stephanie – I have read Phenomenal Girl 5 and it was super. (ha, ha) I’m really not that into the superhero thing, but I loved the book. It kept me up late into the night to finish it. And as a mother of three little ones, I never stay up late.

I would love to read his book Allhallow’s Eve. Its about a haunted house where a murder took place, and now someone is holding a party there on Halloween Night (of course…hehehehehe)

Wow! What an amazing contest!! If I had to choose one, I would say I’d like to read Up in Smoke by Katie Macalister. I own all her previous releases from the Aisling Grey series and this is number two in the Silver Dragons series. They are the only books in the paranormal vein that I’ve read with dragons in them. Her characters are just laugh-out-loud funny and they totally crack me up!! My favourite is Aisling’s wise-crackin’ demon-dog. Thanks Michelle, for the chance to win such a generous prize!!

This is a great contest. The book I want to try is Nalini Singh’s Hostage To Pleasure. I have never read a book by Nalini Singh before, but it seems like every place I go on the internet is buzzing about her books. Hostage to Pleasure is the fifth book in her Psy-Changelings series. I understand that not only are Nalini’s books packed with romance but also action, plot twists, and great world building.

Stephanie, Phenomenal Girl 5 is AWESOME! It is by far one of the best books I’ve read this year. Very enjoyable.

A book I’m really looking forward to reading is Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead. It’s the 3rd book in her Vampire Academy series, and I LOVE the main character Rose. I really enjoy the YA vampire books because they are more innocent and sometimes I think the plots are more intricate. :)

I would love to read Enchanting the Lady, by Kathryne Kennedy. I don’t know if it is still on shelves as I live 40 miles from the nearest bookstore, but it is still on Amazon for less than $10.

It’s set in a Victorian England full of magical beings, with a romance between a shape-shifter and a girl unaware of her own powers. The fact that her magic is related to the relics of Merlin, my most awesomely favorite magician, makes this a must-have book. It’s the first in a new series, so I’d like to get in at the beginning for once, instead of hunting for the earlier books like I do with most series.

Plus, the cover doesn’t have naked people on it, so I can read it without shocking my children.

For books that have come out fairly recently, I cant wait to read Tombs of Endearment by Casey Daniels. It is the thrid book in the Pepper Martin Mysteries which is about an unlucky cemetary tour guide who after a accident can now see and hear ghosts who insist on her help. They are lighthearted and amusing stories.

I want to read The Devil’s Due by Jenna Black. It’s about an exorcist that has a demon inside her. It’s the third book in the series and I have to say I loved the first two books. I want to read it not only because I liked the first to book but also to just escape from my life. Reading a good book does wonders for my mental state and I sure could use a mental vacation about now.

The next book I want to read it The Mane Attraction by Shelly Laurenston. I just love her books. I want to read it because it’s the next in a series and I’ve read all the others in the series. Her books make me laugh, and when under stress Laughter is great medicine.

Ok since I can’t seem to read a price list please ignore my other book choice as it’s over $10(even though I still really want to get it)

My other choice is Fish Out of Water by MaryJanice DAvidson. Again it’s a book I choose because it’s the next in the series and MJ’s books make me laugh. And with the holiday season coming up and work related stress a good laugh is what i need.

With today being the last day with two and a half hours remaining, I barely made it. This is really cool by the way. I would love Bloom by Elizabeth Scott. After reading Perfect You, she’s become like a favorite of mine, making it my goal to read as many of her book as I can.
