Release day for TALL, DARK & FANGSOME!!!
To celebrate the release of the fifth and final book in my Immortality Bites series, I’m giving away: 1) a $20 gift certificate to Amazon.com, and 2) a full set of signed books of the 5-book Immortality Bites series. Please comment in order to enter! I’ll pick a winner at midnight EST Wednesday, August 26th. Got any questions for me about Sarah and the series or my future releases? Ask away! And please pull up a virtual bar stool and have a Bloody Mary. On me!
This is the end, beautiful friend
This is the end. My only friend, the end!!
A depressing song by The Doors, sure. But it is the end of the road for Sarah Dearly, Thierry de Bennicoeur, George, Amy, Barry and Veronique (although we don’t really care about those last two so much, do we?).
Five books since January 2006. Wow! I’ve gotten the chance to spend mucho time with these characters and helped torture them mercilessly. It’s been so much fun!
Thank you to my readers for making it possible for me to write about them for multiple books.
I really hope you enjoy Tall, Dark & Fangsome. This book was not an easy write (this is an understatement). I’d put Sarah into so much stress in the previous book, Stakes & Stilettos, that the first draft of Fangsome read a bit, well…like Sarah needed a prescription for some vampire Prozac. Seriously. There were a lot of crying scenes. The problem was, I forgot about her optimistic personality. Even in the darkest place, she can find the light. She’s an optimistic (unlike me). That’s what I love about her the most. That’s what Thierry loves about her. And even though she’s made some frustrating and borderline stupid unwise decisions (who says the author controls her characters?), her heart has always been in the right place.
Bitten by Books just posted a wonderful review on the book just in time for the release.
So…when I was writing the first (depressing) draft of this book, I needed to get back to Sarah’s roots and find her light and humor again. So I wrote a scene that never made it into the Fangsome — one where Sarah has a flashback to the “blind date from hell” that got her into this vampiric situation in the first place. Unfortunately, this scene stopped the action in the book so it got the ax. I still think it’s a whole lot of fun.
Bonus material! Read about Sarah’s blind date.
A couple FAQs I’ve been getting……….
Why are you ending this series? Will we have more books about Sarah?
Because it’s time. I really felt that any more books would be stretching things since the story arc I began in Bitten & Smitten is pretty much wrapped up in Fangsome. With more books I’d start repeating stuff, and there are really only so many ways to keep a romantic relationship from gelling without it feeling contrived. As it stands right now this is the last time Sarah gets to put on her dancing shoes. But I would never say never if one day a publisher begged me for more about these characters. I’m sure I could come up with something.
Is there finally going to be a really explicit sex scene in Fangsome? Come on, Michelle. What’s up with the sexual tension and not much with the badda bing??
The Immortality Bites series was always meant to have more of a chick-lit feel to it, and as such I chose specifically not to make it explicit from the beginning. It just didn’t feel right. I don’t believe romance books need to be explicit in order to work. Therefore, Fangsome is much like the previous books in this respect. I do feel, however, that the sexual tension between Sarah and Thierry is pretty darn hot and I’ve made sure to focus a lot more on their ‘romance’ in more recent books! HOWEVER, if you’re looking for spicier book, please check out my first Harlequin Blaze, HOT SPELL, that comes out this November. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
But…but…what am I going to read now? OMG! How could you leave me with NO MORE BOOKS BY MICHELLE ROWEN MY FAVORITE AUTHOR TO READ??? (I’m paraphrasing, of course)
Don’t worry, I’m definitely not retiring! I have many books lined up to follow my vampires. In fact, I’ve written five books that haven’t even hit the shelves yet. They’re just in varying stages of being published. Next month my first young adult novel, DEMON PRINCESS: REIGN OR SHINE will be released. It’s the first book in a fun new series. And next May I launch my Living in Eden series, a lighter, romantic look at demonic possession.:) The first book’s called THE DEMON IN ME and if you like my vampires, you’ll love my demons. Well, just one demon — Darrak. And he’s funny and sexy and BIG TROUBLE and helps add a major dose of romance and danger to my heroine, Eden’s, boring life.
I’ll let Sarah and Thierry round off this release party out with a short discussion about Tall, Dark & Fangsome.
Thank you SO MUCH, everybody! And happy, happy reading!
–Michelle xoxo

I am looking forward to reading this and glad I’ve found you because you’re a wonderful writer and a kind person. I love that in this age of twitter/facebook you are so open to us fans and how helpful you’ve been to me in my own writing adventures. Thank you.

THanks everyone!
Cindy S… that’s the vampire king in my urban fantasy NIGHTSHADE that will probably be out in 2011 and I’m writing it under the name Rachel Connor. I think I’m only cutting him some slack since I’ve recently fallen in love with Eric in True Blood. We’ll see how the writing goes!
Wendy… if you’re asking if characters will be making cameos in other books, I have no plans of that. My new books are in different universes to my Immortality Bites one so that makes it impossible for crossover.

Comment
Well…. *pulls up a stool and takes long deep drink of her bloody mary*…..
I must say this is both a sad day and an exciting day. Hurray for the release, and sad for the end of a series. But life must go on, right? Oh, right, sorry to the undead followers, perhaps life wasn’t the best word choice….is existence a better one?
Anywhoo, just wanted to say congrats, Michelle. I do enjoy your virtual release parties.
Also, who can blame you for falling in love with True Blood’s Eric? Yummy! I am so hoping they keep up the series long enough to get into all the yummy Eric-stuff that occurs later in Charlaine Harris’ books.
And, finally, I must say mmmmmm…..angel……. simply because your virtual release party just wouldn’t be the same without at least one Buffy reference.
Comment
Happy release day, Michelle! I’m SO glad I became aware of you and these books through my Twitter account! I’m already looking forward to The Demon In Me. Keep up the good work and thanks for the entertainment!

Happy release day!
It’s really sad that Sarah Dearly series is ending. I think she so spunky and if I was turned into a vamp, I’d really wish I’d be like her! and Thierry sounds so hubba-bubba-licious!
Just ordered my book from Amazon!
Yep, I’m that excited to start reading the book.
Now my Sarah Dearly series collection is complete for my mini library in my room! (^^,) much love!

Congrats Michelle!

What was your favorite part about writing this series of books?

Michelle,
When I found out you had a release the same day as Richelle Mead and after you’re awesome non-spoiler Twitter posts on Blood Promise, I just had to rush out today and buy the first book of this series. I have yet to be led wrong on my goose chase connections from author to author and I have a feeling you’ll fulfill my romantic tension quota over the next several weeks (because I read books too darn fast.)
So excited (and part of me is glad the whole series is out. I’m officially waiting with baited breath on too many series..es.)

Hi Michelle
I bought Stockings and Stilettos(it’s a personal fetish thing) I’d never heard of the author, you, prior to this but the book looked humorous so I thought I’d give it a go.
It wasn’t a bad read at all, enjoyed all of it so much that I stayed up well past milk and biscuits time to finish it.
Unfortunately it didn’t finish. It wasn’t even a self contained episode in a long running chain. It just stopped in mid-hug in a darkened room and said now go and buy the next one if you want the rest of the story – what a load of old soiled pants!!
I would have bought more of the books anyway because I liked the first one I have read, indeed I would probably have bought the set and started at number one if I’d known there were a set of them. However, marketing a book as a book in its own right with a continuance factor is quite a different thing from marketing a book that is only half a book.
I would have bought the lot but now I don’t konw if I really care another eight quid what happens to Sarah Night Fang! Perhaps you should have told me up front that I had to buy two books or even that this was book 6 of 10 or whatever.
So I’ll probably give it one more go but – no tricks this time ok???
I want the rest of the story in one book. Or (seeing as I’ve had an education, which is more than can be said for most of the emerging teenagers in England!)I will take a leaf out of your book and write my own ending. The ending where I keep my hard earned cash and you keep your unfinished stories.
Good story line though, enjoyed it!!
