**Note: Due to a dispute between Amazon and Penguin, this book (and any other Penguin book) is currently unavailable on Kindle. I’m hoping this will be resolved very soon so Kindle users can read it. More information about this problem can be found here.**

Hooray… today’s the day! THE DEMON IN ME, book one in my brand new Living in Eden paranormal romance series hits the bookstores. This has been such a fun series for me to write and I absolutely love the characters, especially Eden and Darrak. I truly hope that readers enjoy the book!!

Here’s the back cover copy:

Hell hath no fury…

Fate has led Eden Riley to become a “psychic consultant” to the police, even though her abilities are unreliable at best. Those paranormal powers are about to get her into a jam she couldn’t have predicted. After her hunky police detective partner guns down a serial killer in front of her, Eden realizes that she’s quite literally no longer alone. A voice in her head introduces himself as Darrak. He’s a demon. But not in a bad way!

>>Book #2 is out October 2010!

…like a woman possessed.

Darrak lost his original body 300 years ago thanks to a witch’s curse. This is the first time he’s ever been able to speak directly to a host, plus there’s a bonus. Eden’s psychic energy helps him to take form during daylight hours. He wants to use this chance to find a way to break his curse — finally. Otherwise, Eden’s going to have to learn to live with this sexy demon…like it or not. And she thinks she might like it.

My release day vlog (try to ignore how many times I say “um”!):

Hope you can stick around a bit for the party. Please leave a comment to be eligible for a prize (this is open to everyone, no matter where you live). Have a question? Ask away. I’ll be popping in to check comments and I’d be happy to answer them for you.

What am I giving away? Check out the following….

1. My last yellow-covered signed ARC of THE DEMON IN ME (collector’s edition!)

2. A signed hardcover copy of DEMON PRINCESS: REIGN CHECK (this is my second YA book that comes out in a few weeks and no relation to my adult demon series).

3. A super-rare, hard to find copy of the out of print BEWITCHED, BOTHERED & BEVAMPYRED anthology that includes stories from Gena Showalter, PC Cast, MaryJanice Davidson and Vicki Lewis Thompson, among many others, with my very first published story in it. This will be signed by yours truly.

4. A $20 electronic gift card for your favorite online book retailer (Amazon, B&N, Borders, etc.)

5. A $10 electronic gift card for your favorite online book retailer (Amazon, B&N, Borders, etc.)

I will choose winners at random tomorrow, Wednesday, May 5th at 9:00 p.m. EST. Good luck!

So please, enjoy yourself. Have a virtual cocktail, some virtual goodies from the buffet — I recommend the demonically delicious chocolate fountain. Darrak will be around to chat with party attendees, but remember, he loses his human form at sunset so I suggest taking a large step back from him at that time just in case he might want to possess your body. Then again, that’s not necessarily a bad thing when it comes to Darrak.

Happy reading!

Michelle xoxo

Congrats on the award, can’t wait to read your new book! :) I could have sworn I saw something about a book signing coming up in Mississauga but now have lost the link… was it in my head? (Much like my own demon possession, taunting me with imaginary book signings? That would so be my luck…)

@Lesley Toledo: “do you know how many novels are going to be in this series?” — I don’t know. If it’s popular with readers and the sales numbers are good, I have enough story for at least seven books. But we’ll see!

@Stacey Monte: “I could have sworn I saw something about a book signing coming up in Mississauga but now have lost the link” — No signings scheduled at the moment, but I plan to do stock signings (when the book is already signed on the shelf). I signed a half dozen copies at Chapters at 403 and Dundas in Mississauga, Ontario yesterday.

@Melissa: “Devoured it. Loved it! This is going on my re-read shelf to be enjoyed over and over again.” — Thank you!! I’ve very glad to hear it! :)

I just love your parties, Michelle. The food is always spectacular! I am so excited for the release of this book! The downside of following your blog (and facebook…..and twitter……whew, how do you manage it all?) is that we get to hear about your books while you’re working on them, which only makes it harder to wait for the release dates! Anyways, I believe somebody mentioned strawberries near the chocolate fountain? I must go check that out.

Thanks everyone for the comments so far. This party is off to a great start!

@Nicole: “If you get to write all the books in this series will the main characters always be Eden and Darrak or will there be books with other main pairings?” — Most of the books would be Eden and Darrak (I tend to lean toward plotting like a TV show, rather than like other books), but I really like the freedom to follow other spin-off characters much like I did with Quinn in Lady & the Vamp. :)

@Natasha (Wicked Lil Pixie): “I have 2 pages left & I can tell you, I loves it! Weirdly enough I walked past World’s Biggest today & looked at it a bit differently” — I’m so glad to hear that you are enjoying it! And yeah, I did a signing at WBB when I was writing this which was the inspiration to use that bookstore. I can see it really clearly in my head. ;)

@Jessica W: “I got a little something planned that includes me, darrak and that chocolate fountain that I’m sure will burn the calories.” — You have excellent taste in chocolate and demons. ;)

Is it wrong that I want to lick the chocolate fountain? I’m restraining myself, but I keep ending up by it, and before I know it I find myself leaning towards it…

@Cem: “I just finished The Demon in Me 2 mins ago. Read it all today, I completely love it! Got hooked and it didn’t let go. Fab book! Can’t wait for the second one!!” — Thank you! I’m so happy you enjoyed it! :)

@Joder: “with your writing career, what is the worst part and what’s the best part?” — It varies from day to day, but the best part is probably being able to make stuff up for a living and basically get the chance to live in my imagination. The bad thing is the biz side of things…publishing is a very uncertain business! No guarantee of regular paychecks!

@AoriHanazari: “I was wondering in what other countries your books were published? (in that country’s language). Reading in Russian would be interesting.” — My entire Immortality Bites series has recently been bought by a Russian publisher so they’ll be out in a year or so. :) I keep a list of foreign sales and covers on this page: http://www.michellerowen.com/books/international-editions/

@Diane: “is there fairy bread???? cant have a party with out it lol” — Yes, lots of it over there by the cheese tray. Help yourself! ;)

@Moonsanity (Brenda): “Do you snack while writing?” — I did a lot more snacking 45 pounds ago, but I somehow felt that feeding my muse Doritos wasn’t helping me much. So now I DON’T snack while writing. Sigh.

I’ve been seriously waiting for this day ever since you talked about the Demon In Me on your blog. So excited I finally get to read it!

Michelle- What has been your favorite project so far? I know most authors say that their new project is always your favorite…is that true for you? Or do you have a certain project that will always be close to your heart?

@Ash: “How long did it took you to write “The Demon in Me”???” — I’ve been playing with this idea and, in fact, wrote it originally up as a dark urban fantasy about four years ago. But then I adjusted things and made it a bit funnier. So the plot took me a while to nail, but the actual writing took me about 3-4 months. :)

@Tori: “What has been your favorite project so far? I know most authors say that their new project is always your favorite…is that true for you? Or do you have a certain project that will always be close to your heart?” — Probably Demon Princess #1 since I’ve always adored YA and it was such a thrill to get published in that genre. And Bitten & Smitten will always be my first born, and get a little more affection than the other children. ;)

@Tanya: “Tell us, are you about to start the countdown to Something wicked? lOL” — Ha! Absolutely. But right now I’m doing the countdown to Reign Check – only 19 more days!! :)

It was great meeting you at RT this year. I’m sending out good thoughts for the UPS guy so he can break the sound barrier and get my stuff to me! LOL
New books look great. How did you come up with this premiss?

I finished it yesterday at night! I can’t wait for Something Wicked (wicked indeed). It was really great, and I am sure I will be rereading. :) Are any of your characters based on real people?

@Lisa Givens: “How did you come up with this premiss?” — I was watching horror movies, specifially Rosemary’s Baby and the Exorcist, and thought about demonic possession and how it’s always portrayed as a horrific thing. I thought I’d play with those concepts a little.

@AoriHanazari: “Are any of your characters based on real people?” I’m glad you enjoyed it! My characters aren’t based on real people, but I might take certain traits or speech patterns and use those where it seems fitting.

@Jeanette Juan: “Do you think the cover art matches the Darrak you envisioned?” — Actually, he looks A LOT like how I imagined Darrak, especially on the cover of Something Wicked. Maybe just a smidge older, though. ;)
