Nightshade ARC

***The winner of the signed ARC of NIGHTSHADE is comment #30 Spav. Congrats! Please contact me at michelle@michellerowen.com with your mailing address by November 30th to claim your prize. And thanks to everyone else for your comments. :) I will be giving away at least one more ARC of this book so please check back soon.***

A few appearances on the web this week you should check out:

I’m giving away the winner’s choice of either Something Wicked or Touch and Go to a commenter at Tote Bags n Blogs. Tonight’s the deadline for that!

And don’t forget, there’s still time to bid on a one-of-a-kind marked up copy of Demon Princess: Reign or Shine at the Leave a Mark charity blog. Deadline is this Sunday.

And on Wicked Little Pixie’s blog I did a fun Q&A and I’m giving away a copy of Something Wicked. Deadline is Monday.

I don’t have many of these lovelies, but I’m giving away one ARC (Advance Reading Copy) of NIGHTSHADE right here to a commenter. If you’re reading this mirrored elsewhere, please visit www.michellerowen.com/blog to enter.

This is the beginning of a a few stories about Jillian Conrad, a woman injected with a formula that makes her blood both irresistible and deadly to vampires. It’s a lot darker, sexier, and more action-packed than my previous single titles, but definitely still with an edge of humor. And did I mention a hot romance with a very dangerous man? :)

Following this is Bleeding Heart, a novella in the Primal anthology (with Lora Leigh, Jory Strong, and Ava Gray) which releases in February at exactly the same time as Nightshade (although, try to read Nightshade first to avoid spoilers!), and Bloodlust which is out next July.

Gotta say, I’m pretty excited about these books and hope that readers, those who’ve read me before and new ones, will like ’em. If they do, I’m more than happy to write more about the characters and this world!

If you’d like a taste of Nightshade, I’ve posted the first chapter here. The book will officially be released on February 1, 2011.

To enter to win the ARC of Nightshade, please tell me what you love the most about vampire novels. And/or what’s your favorite vamp novel of all time and why?

I’ll choose a winner at random Sunday, November 21st at 10:00 EST. International entries are welcome. Please check back to see if you’ve won and for details on how to claim your prize. Good luck!

What I love about Vampire novels is the fact it is this different world, but it isn’t that dissimilar from ours.

As for my favorite? Bitten & Smitten, hands down. I have 3 different copies of it…. >_>

What I love about vampire novels is the different variety there are. For example, some can go out in the sun, some need something to be able to go out in the sun (ring), some can’t go out in the sun at all, some glitter, some don’t, and so on. they are immortal and I love to read the stories that have some type of romance in the story, whether with a mortal or not.

I have loved vampire novels since I read Interview with a Vampire in the early 1990’s. I don’t know why I am so drawn to vampire novels and movies.

My all-time favorite is Interview with a Vampire. Who doesn’t love Lestat?

What I love about vampire books are that the heroes always seems bigger than life – stronger, sexier, more devoted to there heroine. All the things we dream about :)

The reason that my favourite vampire book is Twilight, is because it brought me back to reading. I will be forever grateful!

I think the lure of the vampire is twofold. They’re invincible, ultra sexy, and have this ability to control us in a way that a regular guy can’t. The other thing about them is they simultaneously embody the best and worst of humanity, and depending on their actions, are good guys or bad guys.

I think it is the old vanity kicking in, but I love the never growing old, never feeling frail or sick that draws me in to a good vampire story. In the end, for me vampires are just a twisted version of Peter Pan.

My favorite thing about vampire novels is reading about the struggle that most authors give their characters. The struggle for retain some semblance of humanity. The clear raw passion that they possess. I love vampires! Plus it doesn’t help that most of them are pictured to be raw hott masculine men!! Love it

Thank you so much for the chance to win an ARC I look forward to reading your work either way.

Although (because?) I am married and have two children, I relish the ability to escape into a good book losing myself in the real with the fantastic. What better way to do that, than read vampire novels? I don’t have one all time favorite vampire novel, BUT if I had to make a choice I would say Twilight. I know, I know, everyone loves Twilight, but I had been an avid reader in my youth and had stopped reading for pleasure while in college. Twilight jump started the desire to read again. Now I read daily. Now I share my books with my sisters and a few friends. We enjoy sharing our thoughts and feelings on each book. Your Immortality Bites series is one of my favorites and I loan it to anyone who asks what I think they should read next. Thank you for all your hard work and imagination. Now all you have to do is come to Indiana, preferable the Indianapolis area :)

I will always love Interview With A Vampire. The tone of it, the characters, the scope, it just all came together in a way that held me. And I loved how she managed to make the main character not the POV character but Lastat, the vampire that turned the POV character.

What I love about vampire books is the mystery about the genra. The male leads are all very HOT however they have a cloacked mystery and alpha male persona that we all search for (but would never admit to want in real life). Its the fantasy of owning such a person or being owned by such a vampire that attracts us (well in my case). Favorite book of all time is hard to say I have read too many to choose from, however I have to say Charlaine Harris, Jeaniene Frost, Lara Adrian, Alexandra Ivy and Laurell K Hamilton are on my list.

The best thing about MOST vampire novels and stories is the danger. All the sexuality and sensuality is enhanced by the danger aspect. We all love (at least at some time) the “bad boy” and vamps are the ultimate bad boys.

With all the vampire novels out there, I have to say my favorite is still the original “Dracula”. Bram Stoke wrote the blueprint.

I love vampire novels because they are so imaginative and kind if force the reader to be, too. We can all use a little more imagination.

I dont know that I have a fav vamp novel…if I had to pick I’d go with Stoker. “Dracula” is the great granddaddy of all our urban fantasy vamps.

Hi Michelle! What I love about vampire books has to be the variety. Different authors vampires do different things. Some sparkle, some can’t walk in the light, some are dead during the day and so on. But all of them are sexy as Hell!!!

As for my favorite, what can I say I have to go with Twilight. I love me some Edward Cullen! ;)

I love vampire novels for the sheer “fantastical” idea of such a creature… A former human, if turned, or a blood-born vampire is something that just has always scared me and at the same time given me goose bumps due to their sensual allure… Of course then there are the vampires like in movie “30 Days Of Night” who not only gross me out but would terrify me if they really existed!

My favorite vampire novel has been and still is Anne Rice’s “Interview With A Vampire”, not because of Lestat but the character of Louis who so wanted to retain his humanity even after being turned into a blood drinking fiend!

I admit to having your book “The Demon In Me” on my TBR and have not gotten to it yet for some reason…. Too many books to read and not enough time for them all I guess…

I love them because they are a great myth and have such wonderful storylines and can allow you to meet great characters. They also many times take place in worlds very much like our own but with that wonderful suspension of disbelief attitude. I mean really are we sure nothing lucks in the night around us daily? OH OH!! ME! I have been looking forward to this book for months!! And that first chapter was like woah.

Ok, why I love vamp novels. Theres something about living forever that I find fascinating. Imagine all the things that they would get to see! And those vampire love stories? Love for eternity? Death doesn’t have to do them part. It’s romantic. They’re mysterious and powerful and totally awesome.

Fav vamp book? That’s a tough call. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Hands down. I am obsessed with that series.

But there are so many more that I love!! I loved Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, Infinite Days by Rebecca Maizel, Crave by Melinda Metz and Laura Burns, and Strange Angels by Lili St Crow.

Vampires are dangerous creatures and there is something so alluring about playing with dangerous things. I like reading about that thrill and danger in vamp books. And I really like Meyer’s series because she spun a compassionate nature into vamps not only for the main character, but for humanity as well.

I will have to start as my first vamp novels, since first is like the virginal book and it took my breath away, which was Interview with the Vampire. the likes of which I read and finished before seeing the movie.
What I like about vampires is their complexity. You get the tortured and going for redemption one. The vigilante and dark ones, the dark, hot and sexy ones. The taking advantage of the human ones that find a hot human of the other sex and then do right. The wanting humanity back and falling for a human ones. Then there are the super hot snarky arse kicking, leather wearing, did I say hot, ones that don’t want a relationship but want to keep arse kicking and then fate keeps putting human in path to the likes of which he totally ends up with her and one hopes that together they kick arse twice as hard..
whew, yeah gotta love those vampy layers ;)

My favorite vampire novel is actually a series: Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. That novel introduced me to the truly scary, erotic vampire. Before her novels, the only vampire novel that I’d read was Dracula, which IMO wasn’t particularly scary or sexy. I love the fact that now we have so many variations on the vampire theme to choose from, including my favorite … snarky! It’s no wonder that I adored your Immortality Bites series! I love the premise of Nightshade and am really looking forward to reading it.

I love love love vampire novels because the hero is usually more tortured/brooding than a human hero because he’s lived longer. There’s just something about that tall, dark and brooding combo that really just gets me.

I’ve gotten annoyed with most vampire novels as of late. I’ve been looking for novels that do something different, and I’ve gotta say, I think Nightshade is certainly going to do that. :D My all-time favorite vampire novels were more of the horror-type. I loved when vampires smelled of dirt and blood and were extremely dangerous…yet humans couldn’t seem to say away. It made for very creepy reading. Vampires as sissies don’t really appeal to me.

I still love vampires, I just don’t read the books as much as I used to unless the idea is actually a new one I haven’t really heard of:) Your here sounds very dangerous, yet sexy. Such a perfect combo:)

I like vampires for their combination of strengths (immortality, superhuman strength, maybe shifting to a bat) and weaknesses (needing blood, sunlight, maybe garlic). To have a perfect hero is boring to read.

My favorite vampire novel is still Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” by which all other vampire novels are compared.

Oh, geez. You know, I’ve never really thought about it before. I mean, I know I love urban fantasy (and paranormal romance and any similar genre) because it takes our normal, ordinary world and tosses in just enough fantasy to make it something Other but not enough to be hardcore. It gives the illusion that the story might actually be possible, if not probable.

When it comes to vampires I guess what I love is the potential. I mean, basically a vampire is an immortal human with pointy teeth and a liquid diet. Everything else is in flux. Some can go in the sun, some can’t. Some are awake during the day, others not. Some have additional powers, like shapeshifting, telepathy (of varying kinds), teleportation or foresight. And then there’s that whole mirror thing. And the stake thing. Oh, and the silver.

There’s TONS of lore and authors pick and choose what suits them to make their vampires unique. More so than any other fantasy character, vampires best allow authors to make their claim, so to speak.

Um, it’s a tie between MaryJanice Davidson’s Betsy series (in particular UNDEAD AND UNEMPLOYED) because Betsy has got to be, hands down, the most unique vamp I’ve ever read and Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series because I love the stories (lame but true) and how they blend in romance, spies, intrigue, families, and action then scatters in some historic figures (like Dracula and Voodoo Queen Marie), adds a dollop of sarcasm and PRESTO! awesomeness ensues!

What do I love about vampire stories? I’m a hopeless romantic sucker; I want to believe that there really is such a thing as a couple destined to be together forever and of course there’s the whole erotic element of blood-sucking. But yeah, it’s the forever-together thing.

Dracula was my first, but not my favorite. It was scary when I read it when I was a kid, lol. I don’t really remember finding them again until starting up Feehan’s Carpathian series.

I’ve been a fan of vampires since I was a preteen and read Dracula by Bram Stoker. What appeals to me about them is the opportunity they have for eternal life and, perhaps, love. I like seeing the different twists placed on the vampire mythology. It has been amazing to watch them transformed from monsters to romantic leading men (though Dracula itself is about a love that transcends time so not so odd). My favorite novel is Dracula because it’s a wonderful story and it was my first.

I like paranormals simply because people have such interesting ideas of what the wiggy is really like. I’m a psychic medium and level 10 empath. I have spirits visit me a lot. A few of them are a pain in the ass, what, with the throwing stuff, shaking my bed when they want my attention, and blowing in my ear when I’m asleep because BOY! Is that ever funny! Then there are the energy vampires. I’m a taste treat. I wish they were real vampires, because then I’d go all Buffy on their ass. Spirits come in all kinds of varieties, but none of them scare me as much as humans who have decided to act on the negative side. Ever felt a serial killer? I have. Freaky, freaky stuff. And that’s saying something. That’s why I like paranormals. They are refreshingly simple and uncomplicated by others’ psyches. It’s nice to see something that is not terrorizing.
