Nightshade is out tomorrow! Contest!

*** Thank you for all the comments!! The randomly chosen winner of the $25 gift card is Comment #55 – Francesca*K* . Congrats! Please contact me at michelle@michellerowen.com to claim your prize! ***

The day is finally here! My darker vampire urban fantasy romance, NIGHTSHADE, is out tomorrow! (although I’ve already seen it and the PRIMAL anthology — which continues Jill and Declan’s story in the novella “Bleeding Heart” — on the shelves of Chapters here in Canada).

Since I’m going to be at Bitten by Books tomorrow for my virtual release party, I wanted to do something here on my blog today to celebrate this new release that I’m very excited about. I asked for questions on my Facebook pages and have answered them in the vlog below.

For asking a question, the winner, chosen at random, of the signed copy of Nightshade is Kristen Ceci. Please email me with your mailing address to claim your prize!

NIGHTSHADE

Desire is in the blood

Jillian Conrad never believed in vampires. But she’s just become a living, breathing weapon against them. Attacked by a desperate scientist, she is injected with a serum that was supposed to act as a deadly poison to vampires. And when the scientist is gunned down in front of her, his secrets die with him.

Declan Reyes was only half-vampire, but he hates them with all his heart. He knows that the poison in Jillian’s veins could finally destroy the undead kingdom. Also, the serum has had an unintended effect, making her blood irresistible to all vampires—including Declan, whose bloodthirsty traits are driven into a frenzy by her.

Driven by duty to protect her and by instinct to crave her, Declan takes Jillian into his shadowy world of blood and battle. But he soon realizes his increasing need for her may be a different kind of hunger…

Wrapping up and starting anew

There are only ten days until my new release — my darker paranormal, urban fantasy, horror-esque romance with vampires and dhampyrs and women who are in the Wrong Place At The Wrong Time, NIGHTSHADE is released! I feel like February 2011 has been rocketing toward me at light speed for some time now. Not only because of this release (and of PRIMAL as well) but in mid-February it’s also my…well, my birthday. And I’m turning a round number this year. And it ain’t 30.

That’s all I want to say about that.

Breathe. Just breathe. *twitch*

Okay. Where was I?

Right, talking about myself. There’s a newsflash.

I’ve been a very busy writer girl lately! I am pleased to say I’ve finished THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC and am about to officially submit it to my editor. I’m feeling really good about how the story turned out. Hopefully readers will agree in December. That’s only ten little months from now! That practically “next week” in publishing.

So now what? Does Michelle go on a nice long vacation somewhere warm to relax and recharge?

Um, no. But that would really be lovely.

Today I brainstormed and did a chunk of pre-writing on the first NIGHTWATCHERS book. This is the first of two books I’m writing for Harlequin Teen under the shiny new pen name Charlene Riley. (FYI, Charlene is my middle name. And Riley is…well, it’s one of my character’s last names. Plus I always liked how Riley sounded. And it starts with an “R.” Okay? There is deep meaning behind all my decisions. Ahem).

Pre-writing is the best part for me. It’s when I can just think, stare at the wall. Randomly daydream. And jot down everything that comes to mind, for example character motivation, worldbuilding, ideas for future storylines, plot twists, etc. I wrote the original proposal for this some time ago so it was fun to get back into this new world and feel things out a bit. There are demons and angels in this one since it was written during my “demon phase”. But they’re different than my other demons. And there’s angels too. And both the demons and angels look like very cute teenage boys so it’s ALL GOOD, people. I’m excited to get into it.

I’m working very hard on another project as well…this was more of a recent development. It’s different from anything I’ve done in the past, but a total blast. I can’t wait to share details of this because it is a Real Book that will be out surprisingly soon. And its deadline is Much Much Sooner Than That.

I don’t know why I’m randomly capitalizing things in this post. It amuses me.

Bottom line, I’ve never been busier. I want to give both new projects my all. And my “all” will need a short vacation at the end of April/early May to recover. And then, of course, I get to write the new Sarah book.

2011 is awesome.

Good news: I get to hang out in my apartment with my cats and wear my bathrobe all day long if I want to.

Bad news: I get to hang out in my apartment with my cats and wear my bathrobe all day long if I want to.

Sometimes the good and bad news looks surprisingly alike.

I’ll be back soon with my Virtual Release Party for NIGHTSHADE here on zee blog on February 2nd. Feb 1st I’m guesting at Bitten By Books — I’ll be back with a link for that. And I have a couple more upcoming Q&As and guest blogs + giveaways. Whee!
